About MOLLE Pouches and Gear
The Maxpedition Gear Moire Pouch is a tactical pouch. Most tactical pouches connect with MOLLE straps and hook-and-loop design accessories. MOLLE straps supply a flexible method for users to choose the installation location and position of the pouch and mount them anywhere on gear where there is a MOLLE accessory panel area.
What is MOLLE?
MOLLE is an acronym meaning Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment and defines the pouches, panels, and straps which are used in the MOLLE gear system. Here are the 3 parts of the installing system: MOLLE straps, pouches, and panels. Installing tactical pouches is simple and quick. All soldiers have to do is thread the straps and snap the buttons to set them in place. Now that we know what MOLLE is and how the gear system works, let’s check out a few of the best MOLLE pouches you can include in your airsoft gear starting with airsoft weapon mag pouches.
Colors of MOLLE Pouches and Camouflage Patterns
MOLLE tactical pouches are available in all colors and camouflage patterns. Common pouch colors consist of: black, tan, OD green (olive drab), foliage green (sage), ranger green, and grey. Common pouch camouflage patterns consist of: woodland, desert, A-TACs, Multicam, ACU (Army Combat Uniform), digital, and others. Check out the example swatches below for what they look like:

Kinds Of Maxpedition MOLLE Pouches
Standard Rifle Magazine Pouches
These are also called ‘basic’ pouches or just ‘mag pouches’ because they are quite standard in style. The magazines are secured inside the pouch with a top flap for added security that is generally secured with Velcro. In addition to being offered from many tactical gear companies in the airsoft industry, basic rifle magazine pouches are long lasting and one of the most cost effective methods to carry magazines.
Tactical Open Top Magazine Pouches
Open top magazine pouches are comparable to the standard mag pouches with a couple of differences. As the tactical pouch name indicates, this pouch design eliminates the flap leaving an open top to place and remove magazines.
Open Top MOLLE Magazine Pouches with Retention
Open top magazine pouches with retention systems are the latest and most sophisticated type of tactical mag pouches. In order to make mag access a lot easier and reloads faster than ever before, this style of tactical pouch uses MOLLE connections so it can be mounted at any angle on a MOLLE tactical vest.
The Maxpedition brand also makes retention mag pouches like the FastMag style use varying kinds of retention to grip the magazines and offer security including bungee cords or rubberized tension bands (depending on manufacturer). Magazines are quickly reloadable by indexing the magazine and using a hard tug up out of the pouch. While kept in the holder, the tension straps safely hold the magazines so you don’t need to worry about losing the mag during fast motions, crawling, climbing up things, or maneuvers in training or on the airsoft field.
Maxpedition MOLLE Airsoft Gun Pistol Magazine Pouches
Handgun magazine pouches are available in related styles to the rifle pouches with standard flip top, open top, and open top with retention designs of tactical pouches. The pistol magazine pouches which come in the basic design have a Velcro flap. Condor makes a few standard handgun pouches which secure airsoft gun magazines effectively with this resilient Velcro flip top style.
The open top and open top with retention pistol pouches are the most commonly found variations of handgun pouches. A number of the same manufacturers which make rifle mag pouches make matching handgun magazine pouches in the exact same style. This consists of companies like Blue Force Gear, and High Speed Gear. Both of their rifle mag pouch designs are exceptional quality, functional, and are reproduced by airsoft pouch companies.
Combo Magazine Tactical Pouches Kangaroo, Stacker, and Hybrid
Kangaroo tactical pouches are a paired style of pouch featuring both a rifle and pistol magazine. The cost of one triple mag kangaroo pouch equals about a seventy-five percent (75%) cost savings over buying all 6 separately (3x rifle and 3x pistol magazines).
Tactical Dump Pouches
Dump pouches (a.k.a magazine retrieval pouches) create a spot for you to throw empty mags and other things into quickly. Some dump pouches even have drawstring closure tops for extra security while on the run with a filled pouch.
Tactical IFAK Medical MOLLE Pouches
Medical pouches are a must have for an airsoft gear loadout. IFAK is an acronym meaning individual first aid kit and contains the medical gear airsoft players need when they have to patch up a gash or wound on the field. An emergency treatment pack should contain the following items: medical tape or fabric tape, Band-Aids or adhesive bandages, Ibuprofen or Aspirin, rolled gauze, a number of sterile gauze pads, antibacterial wipes, folding CPR mask or breath barrier, non-latex gloves, cutting shears, tweezers, and Other medical products.
MOLLE Admin Pouches
Admin pouches make a place for holding tools, folded maps, pens, and other field supplies. These pouches are general use pouches for odds and ends which do not go anywhere else normally. Think of things like extra airsoft BB bags, red dead rags, multitools (if they don’t have their own unique pouch), and other equipment you might need on the airsoft field or in a tactical scenario.
Tactical Radio Pouches with MOLLE Attachments
Lots of airsoft units manage radios and communications equipment in the field. Running a radio pouch with MOLLE attachments helps you secure your communications equipment while moving. These small radio pouches will hold most walkie-talkies and portable radios like the Motorola TALKABOUT T800 series and Baofeng UV-5R VHR radios.
