KZ.61 Skorpion
Development of the vz. 61 Skorpion was initiated in the late 1950s, with the intent to provide various non-infantry units with a lightweight, personal defense gun that brought more power than the standard gun. First prototypes of the new gun were built in 1959 and was officially adopted by the Czech Army in 1961. Although the vz. 61 Skorpion was created for the Czech Army, a few Skorpions found their way into the hands of various niche groups, which favored the gun for its small size and the subsonic capabilities of the .32 ACP cartridge.
KMP9
The KWA KMP9 series is based on a small lightweight 9mm submachine gun and features a integrated folding stock and a molded fore grip to provide a stable shooting platform for the user. The KMP9R variant features a bottom accessory rail in place of the molded fore grip allowing for attachment of accessories, like flashlights, laser units, or removable foregrips. Both models have an accessory side rail as well as a top accessory rail for optics and other gun attachments. KWA has also produced a CQB bolt assembly that can easily be swapped to reduce the exit velocity of the gun for indoor CQB environments. With three color options and two variations available, the KWA KMP9 series provides a large amount of power in a small, compact, tactical package.
M11A1
The M-11 was designed by Gordon Ingram of Military Armament Corporation during the 1970’s. Its core design was based on the open bolt MAC-10 which was larger in size and capable of shooting a .45 ACP cartridge. The M11A1 by KWA is a gas powered submachine gun based on the smaller compact M-11 design set by Gordon Ingram. Similar to its real counterpart, the M11A1 shoots from a true open bolt system. A sliding stock can extend out allowing users to remain stable. Small and compact, the M11A1 provides users with a nimble light gun.

Airsoft Handgun Variety Information

Learn about airsoft sidearms, pistols, and handguns and how you can use them as backup guns or as core weapons on the airsoft playing field. A large number of airsoft pistols are fully manufactured variations of their genuine weapon counterparts and look and operate in the same ways while shooting airsoft BBs rather than genuine bullets.

There are a variety of airsoft sidearms including CO2, propane or green gas (blowback and non-blowback), spring powered, and AEG automatic electric gun sidearms. Each of these forms of sidearms has positives and negatives associated with them. Learning more about the varieties of airsoft handguns lets you make a decision on which type is right for you and your airsoft game play style.

CO2 Airsoft Pistols

CO2 airsoft sidearms are among the most resilient and typical types of pistols. They are all-weather pistols and work well in many types of weather, extreme temperatures, and environments. These handguns use high pressure CO2 gas to send airsoft BBs out of the handgun barrel. The CO2 cartridge is normally kept in the gun’s magazine.

These styles of airsoft weapons are good for playing airsoft in cold weather conditions because the compressed CO2 gas is less prone to FPS decreases caused by low temperatures. This fact offers exceptional FPS and shot consistency while playing airsoft in the winter season for instance where other styles of guns like green gas cease to operate or hardly fire airsoft BBs.

Information About CO2 Gas and CO2 Cartridge Cylinders

CO2 airsoft guns are powered by standard 12 gram CO2 cartridges. These cartridges look like a metal cylinder and hold high-pressure CO2 gas consisting of a single carbon atom and 2 oxygen atoms, and so the molecular formula of “C + O2 “. These atoms are attached in the following alignment “O= C =O”. The gas is held in the 12 gram cartridge cylinders under extremely high pressure of near ~ 800psi that correlates to 55bar.

They come sealed to keep the CO2 gas securely inside, but soon after they are opened (shooting them in an airsoft handgun breaks the cartridge seal) they will start to lose pressure if they are left unused. If the airsoft matches end and you still have CO2 gas left, use the opportunity to do some handgun target practice and use up the rest of the excess gas.

CO2 cartridges can be stored for a longtime if they are kept sealed. They have the maker’s expiry date normally noted on the box or cartridge cylinder, however, they will maintain pressure for a long period past this date if the cartridge seal is not punctured.

Green Gas and Propane Airsoft Pistol Details

Green gas airsoft handguns are similar to CO2 handguns, however they use green gas or propane instead of CO2 cartridges. The operational impact on the airsoft battlefield and green gas weapon efficiency is virtually the very same as CO2 handguns with the weapons at around 300+ FPS.

The propane gas is kept in the handgun’s mag which can typically hold around 15 to 20+ airsoft BBs depending on the handgun design. A series of valves, rubberized gaskets, and o-rings keep the gas pressurized in the magazine before the handgun’s trigger is pulled.

When running a green gas sidearm on the airsoft field as a primary or secondary gun, bringing additional magazines is suggested for rapidly reloading and engaging the op force. Having additional magazines allows you to reengage in the action in the middle of firefights or while sweeping structures in CQB (close quarters combat) room-to-room battles.

Green gas handguns are excellent for CQB at airsoft fields considering that rifles and full-sized AEGs are normally not enabled to be used during indoor game play. This is a safety standard due to the close quarters distance of airsoft players during shooting engagements and potential for players to get hurt. While green gas handguns still shoot airsoft BBs at about 300 FPS, the short pistol barrel aids to keep the joules and energy sending the BB at a decreased level compared to AEGs, sniper rifles, and other long guns.

Thinking About Green Gas Blowback (GBB) VS Green Gas Non-blowback

There are 2 different styles of green gas airsoft handguns. There are green gas blowback handguns or GBBs where the slide moves and non-blowback handguns. The green gas non-blowback airsoft pistols use a stationary slide which does not move.

About GBB and Green Gas Limits

Since the green gas or propane is held in the pistol magazine by using rubber o-rings, seals, and gaskets, cold temps can negatively impact these seals and allow the gas to escape prior to shooting the pistol. The lack of pressure can cause the airsoft BBs to just shoot a couple of feet (like 10 feet in cold weather ) when the green gas handgun would usually shoot airsoft BBs over 100+ feet in warmer temperatures).

One fix for this challenge is to keep the GBB handgun mags warmer by holding them near your body just before the game play. This can help to warm up the seals and valves and better seal in the green gas. If you really prefer to use a reliable airsoft handgun in the cold, it may also be better to buy a CO2 version of your preferred handgun. The CO2 cartridges come sealed and perform much better in sub-freezing temps and while playing in the snow.

Spring Airsoft Sidearms

Spring airsoft sidearms are powered by powerful springs that propel the airsoft BBs down the pistol barrel. They are normally single-shot. The manual actions of cocking, reloading, and firing spring handguns makes the fire rate much slower than CO2, green gas, and GBB pistols. When dealing with airsoft players on the airsoft field with upgraded rifles, fully auto airsoft AEG SMGs, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and CO2, green gas, or GBB airsoft pistols, this makes spring airsoft guns entertaining to use, but less efficient.

Spring sidearms and guns work best in springer battles where game players can exclusively use similar, single shot spring pistols or as a close quarters combat backup gun for CQB settings when you can frequently quietly sneak up on other airsoft players to get an assured one-shot-one-kill. In the latter circumstance, a fast second followup shot will not be really needed considering that the other player is already hit by the airsoft BB and out of the gameplay or heading back to respawn. Take care when fighting several foes considering the weapon just fires as fast as you can re-chamber an airsoft BB by hand.

About Spring Pistol Performance

Spring pistols are quite useful under the right situations. Spring pistols can usually shoot up to 120 feet or more with 0.12 gram BBs but target accuracy decreases rapidly.

AEG Automatic Electric Airsoft Sidearms

AEG airsoft handguns or AEPs (automatic electric pistols) are definitely a viable option to carry as a secondary weapon on the airsoft field. These automatic electric pistols are typically powered by mini stick batteries in the gun’s handle. They function just like an AEG gun and use forced air pumped through electrically cycled pistons, cylinders, and gearboxes to propel airsoft BBs out of the barrel and very quickly at that.

AEG pistol mags generally can carry around 20 to 30 airsoft BBs. The handguns can shoot airsoft BBs up to around 300 FPS with 0.12 gram airsoft BBs or 200 to 250 FPS with 0.20 gram airsoft BBs.

AEG Pistol Quality and Performance

AEG handgun quality has actually grown considerably in the last few years. The early gen guns were a little bit questionable and unreliable, but the new versions have the issues worked out and make reliable airsoft backup weapons. They can be further modified with increased mag capacities and also accommodating bigger batteries.

A big benefit of carrying an AEG pistol is that you have the power to rewire the connectors to use a bigger battery. Depending on the AEG pistol style, you can get a large output in performance by employing a two cell Lipo battery (like an 2S Lipo) as an alternative for the stock mini battery.

What Airsoft Pistol is Best for Me to Play with?

If you have more than one-hundred dollars to spend on your airsoft pistol, take a look at a green gas blowback pistol or automatic electric handgun. If you have around fifty to one-hundred dollars to upgrade your gun, review a good quality CO2 pistol or more affordable GBB pistol. You can still get a resilient airsoft pistol by checking out lower end pistols and by trading with players selling used airsoft pistols if you are on a budget.
